
While the forest was dark, the path was fairly well-trodden. ‘Cept for all the ground roots that trip you up all the time.
But, at least I didn’t have to bushwhack my way through.
Once out of the open light of the Heart Lake “flats”, the dense tree growth took hold. Add to that all the snowmelt, and all the rain that fell at this altitude.
It was a perfect environment for some absolutely, stunningly-beautiful ground foliage. Ya might’ve thought you were in some sort of terrarium. The forest was a dream come true for a “whoever it is you call someone who studies mushrooms and mosses and the like”.

There were tons of different kinds of mushrooms.

Some of the huge moss patches were 6-8 inches thick.

And really weird kinds. Something you’d expect out of Jim Henson, or a Star Wars movie.

It was really awesome.
So,
I kept finding myself, reminding myself, I was on a mission – “Wilson”.
And not stop every 20 yards to gaze in wonder.

Gotta keep movin’ . . .
